Traditionally customers had a very limited way of finding your business. It was either done through a category or service based (i.e. plumber, electrician) search through something like the Yellow Pages or a local newspaper, or through word of mouth of friends / colleagues who provided your potential customer with your name, and lastly through commercial advertising.
